On my recent showcase for this month, I presented something very essential and dedicated to every lover of electronic music.
Expanded to 2 hours, this broadcast is for the books. It is a tribute to one of the UK's most influential electronic acts, Fluke, who returned this June with their new album, titled "The Second Bite."
Just for the record, Fluke first made their mark in the late 80s with a series of acclaimed white-label releases, including "Thumper," "Joni," and "Philly," which led to a deal with Alan McGee's Creation Records and the release of their debut album, "The Techno Rose of Blighty" in 1991.
After recording two BBC Radio 1 sessions for John Peel, they signed to Circa, where they released the acclaimed albums "Six Wheels on My Wagon," "Oto," "Risotto," and "Progressive History X," before later issuing "Puppy" through One Little Indian Records.
Throughout this period, Fluke developed a distinctive sound that blended house, techno, memorable melodies, and adventurous songwriting, while also becoming one of the UK's most respected electronic acts, shaping the sound of electronica.
Alongside their own releases, Fluke established themselves as one of the decade's most in-demand remixers, reworking tracks by artists including The Rolling Stones, Björk, Yello, New Order, Tears for Fears, The Smashing Pumpkins, Talk Talk, and Pop Will Eat Itself. Their music also reached audiences far beyond the club scene through extensive use in film, television, and video games, featuring in The Matrix, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Behind Enemy Lines, Sin City, The Saint, Need for Speed, Wipeout 2097, and FIFA World Cup 98.
After an extended hiatus, Fluke returned in 2024 with the single "Insanely Beautiful" followed by "Real Magnificent" and a few other singles, and in late June of this year, they released their long-awaited new album, "The Second Bite," which revisits a selection of their classics with an absolutely reinvigorating result.
This GenX showcase was broadcasted on 14th July at Aaja Radio Channel 2 and it kicks off with a selection of Fluke classics from across their catalogue, mixed by...yours truly. In the second half of the show, Jon Fugler from Fluke joins for an exclusive interview, discussing about the new album, and musical direction, his musical tastes and new acts, memories from Fluke's early days, the Firebird project and Wipeout 2097, and what the future holds for this groundbreaking electronic act.
One for the Fluke fans and every electronica fan, so...vote love.
