What a night!!!
Limp Bizkit played yesterday (15th of June) at Release Festival their first ever show in Greece, and it exceeded every expectation.
I remember buying my ticket back in November, 8 months ago, and I had been looking forward to this gig for months (or rather, for years). Back in the early noughties and University days, I had a big poster of "Significant Other" in my room and I used to listen to this record almost every day. The artwork of it still amazes me. Add to that the fact that a snippet of "My Generation" is featured on the intro of my radio show, which has been running since 2011.
Fred Durst and his band mates unleash punk energy and hip hop attitude. This attractive combo always felt to me like a meeting of Beastie Boys with Tom Morello. And Fred's distinctive vocals are second to none!
So, the boys came to Greece right after an extravaganza gig at Download Festival in UK in front of approx 90,000 nutters. The Athenian night was hot and extreme and full of fire. Various generations from GenX to Genz were going absolutely mental in the mosh pit, creating an incredible atmosphere. Fred was clearly grateful for the energy and the love from the crowd throughout the night. At one point, he even brought two girls, fans of the band, up on stage, and they sang "Full Nelson" along with the band!
Worth to mention that a big tribute to the late Sam Rivers was included on the screen as well. And for showing their love to this mutual experience with the Greek crowd, they even played "Break Stuff" twice and done. All in all, Fred Durst, DJ Lethal, Wes Borland and John Otto have proved that they still carry the right passion among Sam's legacy and play out smashing gigs. It's like one of those days. It's like 1999.
" I can't believe this is the first time here in your home. Thank you very much of having us in your home tonight. All my friends were like: 'Fred you have to go to Greece bro, they're fuckin crazy....' I'm feeling this energy right here" - Fred Durst @ Release Festival 15th June 2026
Hats off also to the energetic Viagra Boys for bringing their explosive punk vibes and setting the tone perfectly! And also, Ecca Vandal who opened the day (i missed her performance, but I heard very good feedback).
An unforgettable night and a fitting way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Release Festival Athens, on its first day of the summertime concerts.
